Barry Wolcott has combined a career in emergency medicine with an academic interest in clinical algorithms and senior management experience with a disease management company from its start-up through initial public offering and subsequent mergers. He has been:

• Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for Access Health, a subsidiary of McKesson-HBOC, where he is an advisor regarding the medical aspects of new partnering relationships, new product development and ongoing corporate operations;
• A founding partner of Informed Access Systems, where he created, implemented and evaluated the medical content of a demand management system including telephone triage, physician selection, disease state management, illness risk assessments, and health risk appraisals – and was a critical team member growing the company from concept to a $250 million appraisal prior to its merger;
• The leader of a nationally recognized research and development effort of clinical guidelines (algorithms) for acute complaints for use by non-physician providers in the US Army medical services.
• Various medical administrative and leadership positions of increasing scope and responsibility in the U.S. Army, including Associate Dean of the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine.

Barry has maintained a clinical practice in Emergency Medicine (currently at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland) at varying levels since 1975, despite his other roles. He is Associate Professor in, and was the first Chairman of, the Department of Operational and Emergency Medicine at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.

Barry earned his M.D. at Johns Hopkins University and pursued post-graduate studies at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Over a period of seven years, he served as an officer and president of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Annals of Emergency Medicine for more than six years. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
