Stuart
Stangelands management career in health care dates to 1986 when he joined Kewanee
Hospital in Kewanee, Illinois, as an assistant controller; in 1987 he became the Chief
Financial Officer of a sister hospital, Gibson Community Hospital in Gibson City,
Illinois. In 1991 his focus shifted from hospital finance to medical group practice
management. Since then he has served as:
- Administrator
of the Primary Care Family Center in Libertyville, Illinois, a multi-specialty group
consisting of Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and OB/GYN physicians that had annual
revenue of $9 million, two thirds of which was from capitated HMO contracts; and
- Regional
Director of Operations and Vice President Physician Services for Cornerstone Physician
Corporation of Irvine, California, a physician practice management company that is now a
subsidiary of FPA Medical Management. In these roles he supported the companys
managed medical groups as an interim manager and problem solver, financial analyst, and
new business planner and developer. He also was responsible for integrating new physician
practices into the medical groups, developing corporate policies and procedures, and
performing operational assessments prior to practice mergers and acquisitions.
As
a Consultant with The Tompkins Group, Stuart brings analytic, financial, system
implementation, and managerial skills to our clients. In the past he has:
- managed
multi-specialty group practices;
- performed
operations assessments and developed operations improvements plans for independent and
hospital-owned multi-specialty group practices;
- established
finance departments; developed and managed budgets; developed financial controls, policies
and procedures; and implemented financial management information systems in medical
groups; and
- managed
the conversion and implementation of management information systems, including planning,
data conversion, file set-ups, and staff training.
Stuart
earned an M.B.A. from Illinois State University and a B.A. in healthcare financial
management (magna cum laude) from Concordia College. He is a member of the American
College of Medical Practice Executives and the Medical Group Management Association.
